As August casts her great golden cloak across the land, the last days of summer roll forth in a shining, sumptuous dream… together, we will step beyond the threshold of Lammas-tide enchantments in our sacred celebration of the ripening grain.
Weaving together the threads of ancient traditions, from Anglo-Saxon ‘Lammas’ and Celtic ‘Lughnasadh’, to the Roman rites of the Goddess Ops, we will make merry in honour of the abundant first harvest.
Join beloved Dorset storyteller and multi-award-winning ceremonialist, Ellie Brooks, for an afternoon of heartfelt connection, joyful storytelling and gentle ritual to connect in wonder to our natural world and the turn of the season.
Discover Lammas-tide lore; what happened to ‘the girl who trod on a loaf’? Who is the midnight stranger knocking at the bakery door in the depths of the night? And what do you do if your bread baking skills are so good you get kidnapped by the fairies?!
Create your own Corn Dolly charm for luck and protection through the coming winter, and take part in a gentle water ritual at the Wishing Well to call upon the blessings of Sirius, the Dog Star, who shines at his brightest in our late-summer skies.
Scrumptious Lammas-themed refreshments will also be provided by the award-winning chefs at Upwey Wishing Well.
This event is recommended for 10 years and older but younger ones are welcome. Tickets cost £20 for adults and £10 for children.
